Workshops

Drawing for Beginners
Tutor: Suzy Drake
Thurs 1st Dec

Wanted to draw but didn't know where to start? Discover the joy of drawing in a more traditional manner, starting with this relaxed, fun workshop! Introducing basic drawing skills we will explore materials and different mark-making techniques aimed at dispelling the fears when faced with a blank sheet of paper!
Cost: £27.00 (inc £2.00 materials charge)

Exploring Stuff - A Mixed-media Playday
Tutor: Viv Arthur
Fri 2nd Dec

There are so many creative materials available for surface embellishment, and the permutations of working them together in mixed-media are endless, so it's not surprising that it can be so confusing as to what's what! In this workshop we will dip into a range of different basic materials, applying them in combinations and layers, discovering the results and the 'happy accidents'. This day of discovery will be enlightening but hopefully will also be a day of therapy amid the mad lead-up to Christmas!

The materials explored will include:
Markal & Oil Pastels
Fabric & Silk Paints
Dyes & Inks
Acrylics & Acrylic Gels
Bronze Powders & Pearl Pigments

Cost: £31.00 (inc £6.00 materials)

In Residence & Drop-in Session - Press, Laminate, Stitch
Tues 6th Dec: 10am - 3pm

Sharon will be working with natural petals showing methods of incorporating into textile pieces.
There are no charges for these sessions. Simply come along to chat to Sharon and learn about what she is doing.

Fuse Effects
Tutor: Viv Arthur
Wed 7th Dec

Unusually for Viv, this workshop should result in very little mess - though I wouldn't bank on it! Most of the action will involve the iron (don't worry - not for any domestic use!), non-woven synthetics, bondable materials, foils, Angelina, FuseFX and a bit of added colour. The individual materials will be explored, and then many of them combined into magical surfaces. This, by no means, will be the definitive presentation of these innovative materials - there are many highly celebrated artists incorporating them in their work - but the day will give you an insight into some of the possibilities.
Cost: £31.00 (inc £6.00 materials)

As the author of 'Creative Felting' and 'Felting Fashion' we are delighted to include Lizzie Houghton in this programme
Chic and Frivolous Felt Hats (two-day workshop)

Thurs 8th Dec - Fri 9th Dec

Hats are very much back in fashion. On this 2-day fun and enjoyable course students will have a chance to make 2 very individual and personal felt hats. Students will be taught how to draft a pattern, and make a template for a seamless hat, to fit their own headsize and personal style. The hat may be small and neat, large and floppy. It may be simple and plain coloured, or it might be embellished with fabrics. Students will learn how to add pleats and folds, stalks, strings and flaps, and to block the hat to keep the shape. This is your chance to make your own unique chic, frivolous, flamboyant, fabulous, fun and fashionable head piece. www.lizziehoughton.com
